  17. Additional information for users of Microsoft Access:

  19. The EXTERNAL.MDB file found in the Win-Mail directory was included
  20. as a bonus feature for those who use Microsoft's Access Database.
  21. This file contains the table "Messages", which can be "opened" or
  22. "attached" by MS Access. The file is not part of Win-Mail's active
  23. message database and is accessed by the program only when the "Save/db"
  24. button is depressed when using Win-Mail's message editor. The "Purge"
  25. and "Compact Database" functions of Win-Mail will have no effect on
  26. the file EXTERNAL.MDB. This file is yours to manage as you wish.

  28. While in the message editor, any active message may be "saved" to the
  29. EXTERNAL.MDB file by clicking on the "Save/db" button. You will then
  30. be given the choice of typing in a "keyword" or selecting one from a
  31. "list box". This keyword adds functionality to your personal message
  32. database by allowing you to sort or query your messages by topic.
  33. Messages that you are interested in keeping because of their technical
  34. or other value will then be added to EXTERNAL.MDB, allowing you to query,
  35. sort, filter, report and use the other database "tools" at your disposal
  36. under MS Access.

  38. Providing you with easy access to the database features of Win-Mail and MS
  39. Access will hopefully open up a vast new potential for the management of your
  40. message base. The tools to easily create a personal "Knowledge Base" that will
  41. take advantage of the wealth of information "on-line" are available to you with
  42. these two programs.

  56. FidoNet. Once we are able to get the echo on-line Karl Caillouet
  57. will be the moderator of the echo. Until that time Brian Gay
  58. (moderator of WinSysop) and Jerry Schwartz (moderator of Windows)
  59. have gave us permission to discuss WIN-MAIL in those echos.
